Cymru Camper Furniture started out in January 2021 as a hobby, to begin with. Having owned a number of VW Transporters over the past few years and been unable to resist turning a panel van into a home from home. This time, instead of buying a kit to convert his van, Tom decided to build his own! Without the commercial machines housed in the unit today, a simple jigsaw in the garage brought alive the first Cymru Camper Furniture U-Shape.
Fast forward to October 2021, and with the investment of a commercial CNC machine, Tom decided to offer his U-shapes on Facebook Marketplace and to friends & family. Over the next few months, the design, and the features were developed and additions were made to eventually create whats now known as the ‘Carreg Cennen Bundle’. Through trial and error, and a whole lot of wood, the laminating, the cutting, and the fitting was mastered.
Next came the big change, moving out of the garage at home and into Cymru Camper Furnitures’ new home in Glanamman Workshops. Moving in on March 1st 2022, with the help of a few local businesses, the industrial CNC machine and the rest of the tools required were transported to their new home.
With Rhys (Tom’s brother) always helping out when he can, he joined the team full-time in March 2022. This has allowed production to increase, and research and development to now become a part of the working week.
With a view to a bigger, better unit in the future, and a team of master builders for every aspect of the U-Shape, Cymru Camper Furniture is looking to leave their stamp on the Camper Conversion Community.
